Exclamation Suggestion: Removal of 'Flame Wars' subforum - 06-14-2008, 05:42 AM

The title pretty much says it all.

My reasoning behind the removal of the 'Flame Wars' subforum is quite simple:
  1. It causes fights between members and staff
  2. It's an unproductive forum that serves no meaningful purpose other than the relief of stress and anger at the expense of others.
  3. It could cause a bias/discrimination, in regard to moderator, when dealing with members that have broken the rules. For example, when a user would normally be infracted, the moderator chooses to ban the user instead due to previous flaming towards them or their colleagues.
  4. It appears to be creating divisions between staff, whereby they, in effect, "choose sides". This causes an awful first impression of the forums for new users.

I'm sure that there is more reasons too; but you get the general idea of what I'm trying to say.

I hope that you seriously consider this suggestion; I think that it would be substantially better for the forums.

Thank you,
- JT

Could you explain further, please? I can't see how any of the reasons that I provided would lead you to that conclusion.

So, please, show me how I "failx43".

If people can't be mature enough to not argue between each other on the forums and abide by the rules, well perhaps they should be banned.

JT, the world is not some little perfect place. There are flaws, people hate other people . You can never change that.

I'm aware of that, however people can act in a professional manner towards each other regardless of whether they like each other or dislike each other. Sure, they can argue with each other whenever they want. My point is that they do not need to do so on the forums - there's always MSN messenger and other ways by which they can communicate with each other.

I totally agree, it should be gone, it does nothing but causes very horrible fights between everyone..

Agreed with JT and Ryan, it is a totally pointless section. I know that if someone was flaming me then I would most likely hold a grudge against them, and its worse if a mod holds a grudge against you, as JT said, they have the power to ban over simple things.

I think there should be a poll put in by a senior member of staff if it causes arguments, so that we can at least see what the majority of people think with regard to the "flame wars" section.

Hope that helps

No, flaming someone on MSN (that goes to Trik) would get you a warning/infraction. That's how it was when I was admin, and I still think it applies.

How, in ainm Dé, would flaming someone on MSN get you an infraction on the forums? I know that on other forums which I moderate or am a member of, MSN chat logs/screenshots are not allowed to be used as evidence/proof for, well, anything! It's simply not conclusive. Screenshots can be edited; usernames can be change to match that of the victim; you simply cannot prove that it was the person on the instant messaging service. The only way to verify if the 'flamer' was the person in question is if they posted on the forums - at least this would allow administrators to know that whoever posted the message has access to the user's account and the IP address of the user who posted it would be logged on the server.

Also, anything said on MSN really doesn't have anything to do with the forums. Sure, if the were flaming the owner on MSN, they can ban them - but then again they own the board, the server, the domain and it's their choice what they do with it and who they want on it.

If thats the rule then I would also recommend a revision of it.

Like I said, it was when I was administrator and this was months ago. It could've well been taking out already but I am not aware of it.

Flaming staff is strictly prohibited. Staff flaming users is also strictly against the rules.
You're right, it is in the rules. Well, I'd suggest changing that rule - but that's for another thread

Everyone can have their opinion about everyone else.
But not everyone has to know about it.
If you truly hate that person fucking talk about it on msn, don't give this forum a bad name just cause he said something that you found offensive.
Agree with him.

Even though life makes no sense keep living it like its the last day.

Although I'm new here, I know that those types of things are hardly ever beneficial to a forum, if ever.

I think that Jt is right and the rule about msn should be taken out, along with flame wars. Do you not think most people would be much nicer to others if we didnt have flame wars?

If it wasnt here then at least if you dislike someone they dont know about it and no ones feelings get hurt, k?
