Default Max Level 140 Servers? None? - 03-18-2008, 07:31 AM

I played Helbreath a very long time ago when it was actually fun and balanced--when the max level was 140. I'm very disappointed to see that most "new" players nowadays have not even experienced such gameplay due to this craze of making levels and stats as high as you can get them. Once the level cap was increased to 180 the game became much more item-dependent as opposed to player-skill-dependent. I'm curious if anyone is aware of a 140 server that is currently running, or if there has even been any recent failed attempts?

I played on HB int back on the day when it was 140.

The only reason it was more skill dependent was because there were no good items out.

The best item out was Wu-Long's Rep+4 Sharp Battle Axe.

Well I do think that the max level being 140 did contribute to making the game more player-skill-dependent--however the lack of items did as well--possibly more so. Personally that is the kind of server I like and would like to see more of.

but people play the private server for the items you cant get on HBUSA and such.

Thats the only way one will be able to keep players.

I think the main reason people play private servers is because they are free (for the most-part). And the second-to-main reason is the kind of game the private server offers according to what one may be interested in (whether or not that involves more or less items). I think there are many ways a private server could maintain a user-base and having more or less items is simply one modifier of that.

While I agree with you that some people may be looking for that.

My point was I dont think there is enough people that would want to play without the perks of a Private Server(aside from it being free) to maintain or grow a community. Private Servers thrive off EK+5, Rare items, and fast leveling.

The server with the best(most popular) balance of those are the ones at the top.

140 and limited rares is not a popular setup.

180/200, 140/200 and 150/250 are the best setups (not sure about the order, they're all good). 150/250 being the most unique, but still not high level. With priest/paladin class to add diversity and an interesting addition to PvP, it really is fun. Anyone who played HB Redemption will agree with me.
