I. Introduction
Welcome to this guide on How to be a Fisherman in the Wonderfully wide world of Runescape. The author is so positive that you'll have such a successful fishing career that if you're not satisfied you can keep this copy of the guide free of charge and we'll send you back your Shipping and Handling fee. Okay, all jokes aside, Fishing is a wonderful skill. Not only does it enable you to stock up on a supply of fish to heal lost Hitpoints in battle, but you can also sell that raw (or cooked fish -- See the Cooking Skill) fish for profit to Pkers or to those that just want to work on cooking. Without further ado, let's all turn the page into this lovely guide...
Ia. Shrimpin' Boat Captain
"There be shrimp in these 'ere waters!" --Alright, I'm going to stop with the Forrest Gump references--
When starting out, the ONLY fish you can catch is the lowly shrimp. There are two good/populated spots where most people fish for shrimp. Location one is "behind" the Al-Kharid bank -- be wary about the Level-14 Scorpion that travels in this area. It can spell havoc for low levels. Another spot is behind draynor bank -- yes, the same location where people chop willows like there's no tomorrow. Alas, there are dangers around here as well. The dangers are the Level-7 Dark Wizards. To low levels, they are a pain in the butt because they will automatically attack you. A good way to avoid this is to fish using the fishing spot that is the farthest south from the Wizards. Sure, it may not be as close to a bank, but...It's close enough. When your inventory is full, there's two options. Create a fire to cook the shrimp (if there's not already a fire), or bank the shrimp to cook later to raise your Cooking level.

Ib. Bait
Bait fishing requires what the name implies, bait, as well as a fishing pole. These items can be bought at the Port Sarim Fishing Shop.
Again, a good spot to Bait fish is behind the Draynor bank. I suggest using this type of fishing until reaching a high enough level to "Lure Fish".

Ic. Lure
This requires the following materials: Feathers and a Fly-Fishing Rod. Go buy a Fly-Fishing Rod from the Port Sarim Fishing Shop. You can also buy feathers from there, though, it is MUCH cheaper to go to the 'big' chicken farm north of Port Sarim, kill the chickens, and get their feathers. Although, if your account is a skiller that you want to stay at Level-3, then....just buy the feathers. Though, even if you're a skiller, that doesn't mean that you HAVE to avoid combat. Anyway, after getting supplies, probably the best F2P Lure fishing spot is Barbarian Village.

Id. Harpoon
This is where some good profit -- and "healing power" comes into play. However, the only place in the F2P worlds to use a harpoon or lobster cage (covered in the section below) is on the Island of Karamja. To gain passage to Karamja, you must START (not necessarily finish) the Pirate's Treasure quest. You must pay 30gp to travel on the ship -- note: It's 30gp to travel both ways.
In P2P this fishing spot is really nice. You can go down into Karamja volcano, and then enter the cave to get access to a bank for storage of your catch of the day.
The Harpoon is used for catching Tuna and Swordfish (the best F2P fish).
The best place in P2P (other than the fishing guild) is to fish in Catherby -- which has a fishing shop nearby to sell your raw fish. Also nearby is a range to cook your fish before banking them).
Picture Note: Blue line: How to get to bank in P2P.
Red line: Going from boat to the fishing docks.
Pink line: Go FROM fishing dock to boat -- to get to Draynor Bank for banking in F2P (an alternative in F2P is to go to Falador East bank).
Ie. Lobster Cage
For lobster cage fishing, you can only fish on Karamja in F2P. P2P has most likely the best (non-fishing guild) spot, which is in Catherby. Other than Swordfish, lobster are the best F2P fish. A good 1000 raw lobster can easily bring in a 1million GP profit when sold.

II. Conclusion
In closure, fishing, whether fishing for your own food to cook and use, or fishing to sell to other players -- or even the NPC stores -- is a valuable skill in RuneScape. Not only does the higher level fish (Lobster and Swordfish) heal wonderful amounts of HitPoints, it provides good cooking experience and puts a good amount of GP (Gold Pieces) into your bank account -- Must sell first, of course). All in all, should you decide to fish, be sure to get your level high enough to fish the higher level fish, as it is the most rewarding.
