Barrows Guide For Level 75 - 90 -
04-15-2008, 07:32 AM
[Chapter 1] Introduction and Disclaimer
^I will not be held responsible for any losses while using this guide, any undertaking of Barrows is totally at YOUR RISK. These are only guidelines to Barrows. Enjoy!^
Yes, this is another Barrows guide - designed for lvl 75's-90's
This method uses pray potions, range, mage and melee. The way it should be Thumbs Up
As 4 of the brothers are maged in this guide, magic bonuses are a must
So let's get on with the guide
[Chapter 2]
2.1Requirements
Quests
Priest in Peril Completed
Nature Spirit Started
Stats
43 Prayer for Melee Protection
40 Range For Range Armour
59 Mage For Fire Blast
Lvl 85 Combat is recommended. It can be done at lower levels as some guides suggest, but lvl 85 makes barrows more of a money making venture, rather than purely for fun
2.2Reccomendations
Quests
In Search of the Myreque- To use Boat
Stats
70+ Attack
70+ Strength
65+ Def
70+ Hitpoints
60+ Range
75 Mage
50+ Pray
These are the stats that I had for the run I did whilst writing this guide
2.3 Items to bring
Equipped
Farseer Helm (Mage Bonus)
Glory Amulet (Can be used as tele out instead of runes or tabs, but can't be used in combat)
God Cape (Mage Bonus)
50 good arrows (Rune for a quick fight, Addy is alright but rune allows you to save those extra special prayer pots)
Earth Staff (After experimenting, Air wave is the best to use, since you only take up one space with runes, allowing you to take that extra shark or prayer pot)
Priest Robes (For prayer bonus, assists with killing Verac)
God Book (Zammy is preferable, guthix is good. If you are unable to bring either of those two: A defender, or anti fire shield are good as well.)
Boots of Lightness(For getting to Barrows and running in the tunnels)
Red Vambs (For ranging, can be interchanged with mystic gloves for mage bonus or black vambs for more range bonus)
Ring of Life (A must if you forget to pray or you lag out, can be interchanged with a ring of recoil for those who feel comfortable at barrows)
A while after writing this guide I finished desert treasure and went and got the ghostly robes. Equipping the robe top, bottom, cape and boots helps with mage attack without investing money in mystic or splitbark.
2.4 Inventory
Food- I found 50 of these beauties in my bank, they heal 16, 2 more than swordies and 4 more than lobbies. After you have brought the essentials, pack your inventory full of food
Pray potions- I brang 4, I used 2 and a half. In this guide you'll be praying on all 6 brothers unless your comfortable otherwise. If you have completed the Rum Deal Quest, You may want to bring a holy wrench, It increases the amount of Pray points you get from a pray potion.
Red Body, Legs and D long This is what we'll be wearing of Karlis and after you've killed the brother, the tunnels. If you feel comfortable, replace with a whip/ddp++. Red can be replaced with black if you have the level)
White - Law Rune- A buffer incase you run low on health and need to tele out. Again, If you feel comfortable, leave it out and replace with a pray potion/food.
Runes This is what we'll be killing 4 brothers with, I've allowed 25 casts for each brother which is plenty, If you get lucky you can take each brother out in about 6 or 7.
Magic Short Bow Used for killing Arhim
Spade Need I say more... I better. Used for breaking into the brothers crypts. And perhaps one day, used for smacking the brothers over the head Razz
Note: You can always interchange anything above for better items. For example Tuna for lobsters. And for beginners, take more prayer pots until you get the hang of things.
[Chapter 3] Getting there
In this day and age of boats, underground tunnels and tree ladders. There are many ways to get to the barrows.
(Kindly borrowed from tip.it's barrows guide)
Start at Varrock, Recharge Prayer at the Monastery, and walk to Canafis.
If you have completed In search of the Myreque, Head behind the Hair of dog tavern and use the trap door, search the wall and head south to the large doors at the end. Head further south and climb the tree, cross the bridge and down the tree. Run south and use the boat. Tada, you're at the barrows and hopefully none of the nasty ghosts have rotted any precious food.
On the other hand, if you haven't completed In Search of the Myreque, Do It!. If that isn't possible, you have to run through the Mort Myre Swamp, following the blue line on the Diagram.
EXTRA: If you do walk through the swamp, jump the bridge and pray at the grotto where the nature spirit is, it gives you two extra pray points. Every point counts right?
Now you're at Barrows with all of the above stuff. Let's get slaying
[Chapter 4] Killing the brothers
4.1 The Brothers
Head to Dharock's Mound First. Double, Triple check that
1. Auto Retaliate - On
2. Auto Cast - On
3. Prayer is fully charged
4. Your wearing your priests robes, Farseer helm and God book
Head down, Pray Melee and search the crypt.
Attack Dharock with mage, keeping an eye on your prayer and making sure that it doesn't fall below about 15 with your prayer pots. After slaying Dharock, Head back up and turn off prayer
(If Dharock is not there and you get a message asking would you like to enter the tunnels, click no, turn off prayer and head back up)
Head to Karlis's mound, switch to melee defence and your d long, take off the farseer helm if you have room. Dig, Pray range, Search the crypt, Enjoy your specials. Again, keep an eye on your prayer, not letting it fall below 15. When he falls, Turn off prayer and head back up.
(If Karlis is not there, head back up, turn off prayer and continue with the guide)
Time for Verac, Switch back to your priest's robes and staff. Ensure you have your Auto Cast set, Dig, Pray, Search, Kill. This time, Verac can randomly hit past your prayer, rendering it useless for one hit. He rarely hits above 20, if he dose manage to hit, try and find a safe spot around the crypt to heal. (If Verac is not there, head back up, turn off prayer and continue on)
Head over to Guthans's Mound, Treat him like Dharock. Pray melee, Mage Him, keep prayer up above 15. Once he falls, Turn off prayer and head back up(If Guthan is not there, head back up, turn off prayer and continue on)
Torags's time to die is here, or at least his ghost anyway. For the first time, pray melee and mage him, keeping your prayer above 15. Once you feel comfortable with killing him and you're looking so save some prayer potion, you can change to your d hide and mage him without prayer. His magic defense is so low, you can cast easily in your ranger armor. Once he falls, head back up and over to Arhims mound.
(If Torag is not there, head back up, turn off prayer and continue on)
If you have not encountered a tunnel yet, Arhim will be in the tunnels. If you have found a tunnel, and need to kill Arhim read on.
Dress in full ranger and pull out your short bow. Dig, Pray Mage, and search the crypt, use your special at the beginning and the end of the fight. He should go down pretty quickly
4.2 The Tunnels
Right now you should have killed 6 brothers and know who the brother in the tunnels is and where the entrance is.
Dress appropriately for the brother
(Melee brother- Priest Robes and Spell set on Auto-cast)
(Arhim- Dragon Hide and bow)
(Karlis- Dragon Hide and Weapon)
Go down into the tunnels with auto-retaliate off and DO NOT RECHARGE PRAYER. Open and close the same door over and over again to help spawn your brother. Because every time you open a door, the monsters in the room re spawn, and hopefully re spawning your brother. When you find your brother, do as all of these things in this order
1. Drink 2 doses of your prayer potion
2. Pray as you need to (Mage, Range, Melee)
3. Right Click and then attack him
Once your praying, Maging/Ranging/Meleeing, take a deep breath. Keep killing and keep an eye on your prayer level, Once again keeping it above 15
Now what to do, You've killed 6 brothers, and you need to get out of there with as much loot at possible. Move the camera around and try to find a room with a big chest, your goal is to get to that chest. There are 4 doors that lead to that door but only 1 of them opens. Work your way around the rooms, trying to locate the door that opens.
Once you find the door, you will be presented with a puzzle to solve. Check the tip.it barrow guide for the answers if your really stuck.
Once you've opened the door, kill what is inside. Remember what we did to spawn the brother? Do that with the door between the treasure room and where you are now.
Keep killing what you find until you either run out of food or reach 20 kills (20 Kills has been proven to give a better drop from the chest)
Open and search the chest. If you bought the law rune tele out, or If you bought your charged glory ammy, use that.Have a peek at what you got
CONGRATULATIONS. You have just finished a barrows run.
[Chapter 5]
(Some info taken from Tip.it)
Barrows Armour Drops are 1 in 108 times, this chance improves with every kill
You can get:
Blood Runes
Death Runes
Mind Runes
Chaos Runes
Bolt Racks
Cash
I didn't manage to get a screen shot of it, but for the run that I did to write this guide I got 80 bloods, 50 death, 174 Chaos, 31 Bolt Racks and 543 Gp. I haven't gotten an Armour Drop yet <.< , But I'll keep doing it and updating this Guide ugh
Remember, Barrows is a great experience, keep doing it!
P.S This is my first guide, I would appreciate lots of feedback, flaming is good, but make it constructive flaming
P.P.S Bumps appreciated Very Happy
UPDATES
After experimenting, at my current mage level (76) it is easier and quicker to mage Karlis. Therefore you do need to use bring dragon hide to kill karlis. But you still need it to kill in the tunnels and for Torag if you intend on killing him without the use of prayer.
If you do not intend on gathering the 20 kills in the tunnels and are planning on praying for torag/have higher defense/willing to use food, do not bring the Dragon Hide and replace with food/pray pots.
I discovered the use of tele tabs. Replace the law rune with the tab if you can, Varrock is the best place to go, lumbridge is also okay.
I finished In Aid of The Myreque, therefore opening up Burgh De Rott to me. If you feel like using 2 doses of a pray pot, you can simply walk out of the tunnels by the ladder that you used to come in and walk to Burgh De Rott and bank. Bank there, restock, Pot up with prayer pots and head straight back to the barrows. This method does have it's risks, If do not save enough food for getting out of the tunnels, you risk dying.
